Tom Langford

A little Known but rapidly becoming so photographer coming from Portsmouth Tom Langford is both a friend and also a partner in crime sometimes lol. Tom has a unique style and dedication to his work which stems from personal passions such as John Lennon; of which he spent two days photographing the house John Lennon grew up in, in a project aptly titled ‘Mendips’ to the whole culture surrounding the Beatles and that era. His main work depicting the modern MOD culture and Scooter culture has captured the attention of many people and I really think people should take a look. He is also exhibiting his work in the following exhibition so feel free to pop along:

Bike Polo Portraits

Once or twice a week I go down to Preston Park in Brighton and inflict injuries on others and they inflict injury on me. The game of Bike polo is brutal but fun, its essentially horse polo played on a basketball court but on a bike with full contact rules.

Here are a selection of the guys I play with on a weekly basis.

The whole set can be found here on my flickr:

moo.com

I first discovered http://www.Moo.com about a year ago and thought it was a bit too good to be true, so i thought what the hell I will order one pack of their business cards. Being immensely picky about what image to have on my card and always changing my mind I loved the fact you can have a different image on each card. This also means that you can trailer which cards to hand out to which clients.

The cards themselves are incredibly well made, thick card and can take a beating in someones wallet. The cards are printed both sides to the same high quality printing and the color matching to photos is phenomenal (something other company’s fail at) So yeah this is just a blog post to praise them and raise awareness of an affordable company that seems to know how to market themselves and conduct themselves in the modern market. The cards always get a good reaction from clients, and I even let them pick which image they want, whether it be a sewer or a building.

my latest batch of cards have different images on the front and I am trying out black on the back with white writing:

My Photographic Hero’s

So who do I respect in the photographic world? This is a hard one as there are soooooo many people to chose from but it seems the ones that I keep going back to are the ones who have very little to do with the photography I do today:

The First is James Nachtwey

I cannot stress how much respect I have for this man, his work his ethics and the way in which he performs under such severe conditions just astounds me. Everytime I feel stressed at a wedding or an event or shooting a protest I think back to how calm and collected he is. He introduced me to the super powers a camera can give you making you invincible to your surroundings and made me get closer to my subjects and confront challenges. This talk by him is inspiring and a must watch for everyone photographer or not:

Second is Gregory Crewdson

I used to hate his name at University as people would always refer to him whatever they were shooting, but I love his vision and over the top production of every photo.

Chase Jarvis

Not for his photography as such but his enthusiasm and his incredible ability to Network and get his name out there, an inspiration to modern photographers just starting out:
